5 Ways to Rock a Headband

A headband is such an easy way to complete a hairdo, and take an outfit to its next level style-wise. A simple, skinny headband provides an elegant touch for that professional interview or meeting you have to speak at, while a more lavishly pearl or rhinestone decorated band can make you feel like royalty.

Headbands are quite the versatile accessory, offering several different options on how you can wear them. Here are the most common styles:

1. The pull-back. This style keeps your hair all tucked away, and out of your face. It looks extra cute if you’re rocking a teased, big-hair look in the back.

2. Framed by hair. This is my personal favorite way to rock a headband, by slipping it into you hair so that some hair and bangs are in front of the headband, and the rest behind. This style looks fabulous with curls and a wide band (like the pearl white band in this example), or with straightened hair and a thin band with rhinestone sparkles or bright colors.

3. The Geordi. In case you’re not a fan of being able to see.

4. Flower Child. Ribbon headbands offer even more style options than the bands do. For example, they can be tied around your forehead horizontally for the more hippie-look that I can in no way pull off.

5. The goddess. Unlike the flower-child, the goddess look is achieved by tying a ribbon headband around the base of your hairline. This generally works best when your hair is pulled back into an updo.

I LOVE headbands, but I wear glasses. i have 1 that has curved ends that i got years ago that is the only 1 that doesn’t interfere with my glasses & hurt my big fat head. Please tell me you have some like that. I really need some pretty ones.

Barbara, I would recommend any of the ribbon headbands, as your glasses could easily slip over the thin ribbon when you take them on and off. They’re what I prefer on days when I’m going to be rocking shades too.

After the sixties were over I secretly wished the “flower power” headband trend would come back. Now that I’m in my sixties, I’m too old to wear them that way!

Awww… it’s my belief that no one is EVER too old for a headband, sometimes just a style upgrade is in order. ;-) lol
