I’ll Take Your Questions Now

Hello there dear readers,

500 of you are official followers now (the coolest among you), and this silly blog is coincidentally reaching 500 published posts.

Woah. 500 is, like, half of a thousand, and THAT is a really, really big number.

Speaking of big numbers, I’ve also reached well over 1,000 Facebook Likes and Twitter followers. All brag-worthy milestones I’d like to celebrate now.

Megan Petersen

I want to give you all a chance to get your questions out there, and have an “ask me anything” session.

Want to know how I come up with jewelry design ideas? Interested in a specific marketing strategy? Want to know who I had a crush on in the 7th grade? Ask away.

Go ahead and place your questions in the comments below, and I’ll do my best to respond to each one. No question is too ridiculous, trifle, or personal.

I’ll take your questions now.

How do I turn Facebook followers into Etsy customers? How do you do it? Is there a common ratio to give me an idea as to how you’re doing?

Sometimes it’s hard to tell where you’re customers are from, especially once you start getting a higher number of fans and don’t keep track of all their names. However, one really easy way to draw customers to your Etsy shop, and tell if their buyers is to offer an exclusive coupon only for your Facebook followers. Obviously, if anyone uses the coupon to make a purchase – you’ll know it’s from Facebook!

Tip: make your coupon code an IMAGE instead of just text, and include the link to your shop either in the description or the first comment and it will get seen by a greater percentage of your fans than if it’s just text and a link.

Where do you get your creative and interesting ideas to blog about?

As with all things, once you make something a habit, it comes easier and more naturally. If you come up with a dozen or so blog posts to start with, and set an editorial calendar for yourself (how often you’re going to blog)… you’ll start coming up with even more ideas as you write those posts.

Here’s a guest post I wrote for Handmadeology on coming up with blog posts: http://www.handmadeology.com/never-run-out-of-blogging-ideas/

Also: read a lot of other blogs. Just as with novelists, writers are also frequent readers. I’m not saying that you should copy other bloggers, but the more you read the easier it will be for you to come up with ideas.

    Congratulations Megan!
On your new website, you mention that products are added daily. I am curious as to whether you made up a really large inventory while the website was being created and are sloooowly adding bit by bit.. or whether the items added each day are literally made fresh?
How do you keep up such a large inventory?

      Emma,

While I do pride myself on being a pretty speedy beader, the items I’m adding to my web site are not all necessarily being made that same day, week, or even month. Some of them are items that have expired in my Etsy shop, and I want to move them over to the web site, and most of them consist of inventory I’ve been working on for a few months new to prepare for a craft show I just participated in a couple of weeks ago, and are left over. Since I have to take pictures and write new listings for these items, I’m adding a few a day, all while continuing to create even more inventory. It really is an endless task, but it keep the listings fresh!

So in short, no, I do not have super-human-power abilities. lol
