Meet Aurora from AurorasOriginals – Friday’s Featured Artist

Can you sum yourself up in 3 sentences?
-Dedicated single mom who has turned many corners in the last few months- son graduated high school and joined the Army, I got married and took on 3 additional children, and quit my job of 18 years to relocate with my husband. I now find making jewelry to be my salvation, keeps my hands busy, my mind off unemployment, and gives me a bonding venue with the children- some pieces were inspired by them. I face each day with a positive attitude, a cup of coffee, and beads -oh the mesmerizing colors and shapes of beads.

Tell us about what you sell on Etsy:

I design unique handmade jewelry. I have my hands in just about every type of jewelry I can think of: glass beads, wood beads, acrylic beads, wire wrapped beads. I use hemp, nylon, wire, pendants, shells, charms, memory wire, chain, buttons, thread, elastic. Each piece is individual and unique.

Beaded Matching Set - $35

What is your favorite thing about creating?
My favorite thing about creating is that there is no wrong answer- each item is a statement, a feeling, an idea and as it builds it is transformed into its own identity and characteristic.

Victoria Mint Earrings - $10

Where do you find your inspiration?
I find the most inspiration from the beads. A color sparks a thought about “this would look nice with …” and then “oh this will look great with it too”. Sometimes a pendant just begs for a certain color bead, or combination of beads. A great example of this is the Button Necklace- “Bubbles”. The button caught my attention and I went from there.

Glass Beaded Necklace - $25

Do you have any selling tips or tricks for other Etsy sellers?
My best advice is to become part of the ETSY community- join a team, comment on a discussion thread, ask for advice from other sellers, and share what you figure out with others. You can be a rock all by yourself, but getting noticed is part of the draw to selling- you’ve got to have an audience- the more you share, the more is shared with you. I have found circles to be a great way to see what people like in my shop- move the popular items to the featured section, post the items on a few discussions in my teams, and wait for someone to snatch it up. If its featured, it wont last long.
