Once upon a time, online shopping was a utilized by only a select few. Only those who weren’t afraid to use that scary computer thing would send their credit card information over the telephone lines where God knows who else would able to see it. Now, with the revelations of the checkout system and e-commerce technology, ordering online is a commonplace household occurrence. Cyber-Monday, the coined name for the following Monday after Black Friday, is now an established date for millions of online e-commerce stores to host massive sales (and receive lots of buyers.) In today’s day and age, almost every major department store, and even millions of smaller, local stores, have their own e-commerce web sites where their customers can reach them from around the world from any internet connection. Nearly everyone has bought SOMETHING from their computer, and had it shipped right to their door (or downloaded directly to their PC or MAC.) People are more prone to trust a commerce site with their Paypal (or credit card, or Google checkout…) than every before. Now they can look for trusted seals on any site that says claims it is a trusted business, and will be sure with its customer’s billing information.Even so, with so many purchases made right from the comfort of one’s own home, there are still a lot of TYPES of items that people tend to be weary about purchasing online. Some people are fine with buying clothes online, some not. Understandably, some people HAVE to try somethings on before buying. This thinking should be challenged. There is so much more to choose from if you can buy your clothes online! What I would recommend, it checking a seller’s return policy FIRST, and reading the details of the descriptions before making your purchase. I bought some beautiful fingerless gloves from Etsy seller 666Tristania666. Gorgeous! So excited! Bummer. Too small. The description said one size fits most. I contacted the seller and explained the situation. We were able to come up with a deal so that both sides could be satisfied, and she ended up editing her listings to include size options. How awesome is that? A lot of online sellers offer measurement charts that reference the sizes they have included. If you don’t want to end up with a wrong size, it’s as simple as following their charts. If you receive the item, and it’s different than what the description measurements claimed, then you have eligible cause for a refund. If you pay via Paypal, then you can file a claim up to 45 days after making your purchase if the seller does not respond to your addressing the error. Essentially, there is little reason to limit yourself with the places within a drive’s reach. Buy clothing and accessories form all over the world over your computer! Besides, a lot of the items sold online, just as the jewelry sold in my store, it can’t be found anywhere else because of its unique, handmade nature. Once upon a time, I maybe have felt unsure about buying clothing and jewelry online, not anymore. I’ve purchased everything from jeans, to my wedding shoes right off of Ebay. As long as you measure yourself correctly, and order in the corresponding size, you should be good to go! I ordered all of my bridesmaids dresses off of Amazon, and I’ve gotten the majority of my Christmas and birthday presents from Etsy. Once upon a time a person had to go out and buy the latest CD of their favorite artist, now you can download entire albums, or just singular songs off of itunes. If your a crafter, you can save TONS by buying your supplies and patterns online. You can compare shop prices quickly, by simply jumping from one site to another. You can also discover things to buy that you wouldn’t have even though to look for, through blog recommendations, Facebook, Twitter, or Flickr. Even food items can be ordered online. Many people are still weary of this one, save for ordering a local pizza delivery via wireless connection. but just to calm your nerves, let me just say this: you’re missing out if you don’t at least give this shop a try. I ordered some amazing white-chocolate covered Oreos from ATouchOfSimplicity, and they were to die for! She sent them carefully packaged, priority mail, so they arrived quickly. And the quality? Simply amazing. Just looking at her listings has me fighting with myself to resist the urge to buy more.
So what about you? Is there anything you are still unsure of buying online? Would you buy a bathing suit? What about a “gently used” DVD? A wedding dress? Share your thoughts!
