August Announcements

Happy August everyone!!!

*This is the part where you all say “hooray” in a very sarcastic monotone.*

Hey now, I tried to make it “Happy July!” all over again, but something about the space-time continuum wouldn’t let me.

Ah, well. August it is then!

Just a couple of quick announcements and I’ll let you get on with the rest of your first day of the new month.

For starters, there is a new pair of silver hoop earrings on my website:

Visit CraftFrogPatterns for some AMAZING crochet designs!

Well, I random.org’ed the entries (yes, I totally just turned a website URL into a verb), and it looks like the winner is…

Amiguruthi! Congratulations! Joy will be sending you your PDF shortly.

Alright then folks. That’s all I got for your today.

Nothing left to see here….

Meet Amanda from LittleNoteCrafts & Enter to Win a FREE Pair of Fingerless Gloves

Crochet Cap

Light Brown Crochet Winter Cap with Ruby Red Flower

Can you sum yourself up in 3 sentences? Give it a go!
I’m a natural born crafter who is finding her way in this world. I love to spread a smile, bring joy to everyday lives, and be uplifting. I’m passionate about art, family, food, desserts (yes, this is a whole separate category from food), and the great outdoors.

Tell us about what you sell on Etsy:
LittleNoteCrafts is all about bringing a little color and joy to our everyday lives, so I sell accessories meant to be used every day like hand knit and crocheted items like hats, scarves, fingerless gloves, gadget covers, mug cozies and the like. I’m always looking to introduce new items to continue to expand my shop. I also dabble in jewelry from time to time with bright and beautiful colors and styles, though working with yarn is my first love. There are just so many great cozy kinds to choose from!

Ceramic necklace

Autumn Red Ceramic Leaf Pendant with Golden Yellow Wire

What is your favorite thing about creating?
While I love the entire creative process, from the initial design to finding the perfect yarn, my favorite part is the great sense of pride and accomplishment when I finish a piece. There’s nothing like that feeling of putting something beautiful together with your own two hands, especially pieces that take longer to do. It’s even better when you see someone wearing or using something you’ve made. It only motivates me to keep creating!

Hand Knit Blue Fingerless Gloves

Where do you find your inspiration?
Nature is my biggest inspiration. It’s where I find the inspiration for great colors during every season, and often the motivation to keep going with whatever endeavors I’ve undertaken. Nature is always resilient, and I try to take a lesson from that.

Do you have any selling tips or tricks for other Etsy sellers?

I wouldn’t say I’ve been hugely successful (yet), but my biggest piece of advice would be to stay consistent and stick with it. When you’re beginning I think it’s OK to have a period of trial and error to see what works for you, but after a while you need to stick to your prices and your products and your ‘brand.’ Change can be a good thing, but too much too often hurts a shop more than helping it.

Having outstanding customer service and being personable are also key factors in success. Just be yourself and be proud of what you do!

Meet Heather from PenguinflyDesigns & Enter to Win a Free Scarf

Can you sum yourself up in 3 sentences? Give it a go!
I’m Heather, young-ish woman that acts at times more in her 80s. I crochet, knit (poorly), read, bake, etc. instead of the normal drinking and running wild for people my age. When I’m not crocheting or reading or baking I’m usually at work at the local hospital as a nursing assistant.

Tell us about what you sell:
I have hand crocheted blankets, some newborn photography props, scarves, hats, and anything else I feel like making. I get bored easily, so I like to try out new patterns and items.

Made to Order Custom Granny Hexagon Afghan – $120

What is your favorite thing about creating?
I love learning new crochet stitch patterns. There’s something amazing about all of the different things you can create with the same handful of stitches. The same single, double, triple, etc. can make a whole host of different designs when mixed in new combinations.

Where do you find your inspiration?
I have some vintage crochet books for stitches, I troll Pinterest for things and color combinations I like, and then I just sit down with hook and yarn and see what happens.

Nest Photography Prop – $25

Do you have any selling tips or tricks for other sellers?
Don’t stress too much. Crafts don’t really make much profit, you have to be doing it because you enjoy it because you’ll probably never get rich off of it.

Do you have a coupon code for us?
Sure do! Use code “Megan10″ for 10% off of your order!

I am Officially a Trade-A-Holic!

2 Fabric Button Bobby Pins - $9.95

There are some habits we are warned against even thinking about. Some things we are told, NOT EVEN ONCE. Because, the evidence shows, they can be very, VERY addicting. Apparently, trading goods for goods on Etsy is one of these things.

Too late. I’m hooked.

Fabulous gloves I got in a trade from salutationscrochet!

I can’t believe it took me so long to discover the magic of making trades with other Etsy sellers! This is the best thing since sliced bread! (Okay, I know that’s what I referred to audio books as in an earlier post, but I’m short on analogies at the moment.) Trading is a great way to satisfy my shopping addiction without emptying my paypal account – and sharing some of my goodies to folks all around the world in the process. Talk about great fun.

Green Heart Earrings - $12.00

In the last few days I’ve conducted close to a dozen trades. I know, it’s a lot, but like I said before: I’m addicted and I just can’t help myself. I was invited to join the Etsy Trade-A-Holics team and the Etsy Trades A and Barters team. I immediately started to comb the members for prospect and sending out convos to items which snagged my attention.

Of course, several of my convoes have been ignored, and some of my offers rejected, but out of all of them I’ve actually gotten quite a few pretty awesome trades! Ti’s also helping me to discover some shops out on Etsy that I wasn’t aware of before!

This addiction, I can only assume, isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
